Sun Life steps up as the title sponsor for ART021 HONG KONG, bringing together art and culture for a dynamic debut in the city’s vibrant West Kowloon District.
Sun Life is delighted to become the principal sponsor of the ART021 HONG KONG Contemporary Art Fair. This event marks its eagerly awaited first appearance in Hong Kong after achieving significant acclaim in mainland China, where it has hosted more than 20 art fairs of international caliber in the last ten years.
Sun Life is excited to declare its title sponsorship of ART021 HONG KONG, introducing the Sun Life Pavilion. This sponsorship represents a journey through Hong Kong’s artistic and cultural evolution from its past to its future.
Since its inception in mainland China in 2013, ART021 has become a favored event among celebrities and art collectors, offering a dynamic platform for art enthusiasts to discuss contemporary trends and exchange ideas.
With a 132-year history in Hong Kong and origins in Canada, Sun Life stands as a leader in protection and wealth management. Now, the company is broadening its impact to include the cultural sector by supporting one of the most significant art events in Asia. As the main sponsor, Sun Life is dedicated to bridging artistic communities across Hong Kong, mainland China, and internationally, enhancing cultural exchange and learning. This effort not only unites artists but also provides the public with a comprehensive artistic experience, affirming Sun Life’s global brand presence and broad perspective.
Aiming to transform the art fair experience, this year’s event will take place from August 28 to September 8 at prestigious locations such as the West Kowloon Cultural District, The Fringe Club, Victoria Park, and Asia Society HK Center. The fair will feature various sections like GALLERIES, VIDEOS, SCULPTURE, EXPANSION, and GBA ART WEEK, each highlighting unique aspects of contemporary art.
Irene Ho, Chief Marketing Officer of Sun Life Hong Kong Limited, said, “Sun Life is committed to enriching the city’s cultural fabric by championing large-scale art and cultural events. With our strong heritage in Hong Kong, our deep understanding and affection for this city are unparalleled. We firmly believe that art can forge a brighter tomorrow, and we aim to tell our story through art, showcasing Sun Life’s commitment to and aspirations for Hong Kong.
By bringing this prestigious event to the city, we also strive to create a regional impact through the intersection of art and finance, ignite creative ideas, and build a sustainable future through creative practices and community engagement, thus inspiring future generations through the art of future-ready.”
Sun Life Pavilion: Bridging Eras for a Sustainable Tomorrow
As the premier sponsor, Sun Life is thrilled to unveil the Sun Life Pavilion at the Phillips Asia Headquarters on the 3rd floor in the West Kowloon Cultural District. This space celebrates the transformative role of art, featuring a curated selection of works by exceptional local artists that explore Hong Kong’s historical and cultural progression.
Past – Traces of Heritage
Sun Life has deeply influenced Hong Kong’s community by providing advanced financial solutions, leaving a significant imprint much like the celebrated “Emperor of Kowloon,” Tsang Tsou Choi. His first street painting in 1956 and his distinctive calligraphic works have left an indelible mark on the cityscape.
Present – Visionary Leadership
In today’s ever-evolving society, Sun Life stays ahead through innovation and excellence. This ethos is mirrored in the creations of Michael Lau, the pioneering “Godfather of Designer Toys,” whose art melds life’s narratives with contemporary culture, reflecting the vibrant local art scene. The Pavilion also highlights Adrian Wong, the 2013-2014 Sovereign Asian Art Prize winner, whose pieces explore the nexus of urban history and cultural identity.
Future – Pioneering Sustainability
Committed to continuous innovation, Sun Life supports artworks that echo its sustainable ambitions. Lui Chun Kwong’s revolutionary landscapes and Lam Yau Sum’s eco-conscious creations promote environmental stewardship, aligning with Sun Life’s sustainable vision.
Exclusive Artwork Premiere by Kristopher Ho
The Pavilion will also introduce an original piece by renowned muralist Kristopher Ho, crafted live to offer a dynamic and engaging experience, encapsulating Hong Kong’s past, present, and future.
Immersive Audio Experience by Daniel Wu
Celebrated actor and design enthusiast Daniel Wu, this year’s Arts and Culture Ambassador for the ART021 HONG KONG Contemporary Art Fair, presents his collaborative project with Swedish audio brand BAUD. The BAUD x Daniel Wu headphones, premiering globally at the Pavilion, promise an immersive auditory journey that enhances the visual art experience, symbolizing Sun Life’s commitment to innovative cultural ventures.
Irene Ho concluded, “At Sun Life, we strive to elevate Client experiences through the power of innovation. We take great pleasure in offering art enthusiasts a truly unique experience at our Pavilion. By connecting with these distinguished artists, we present artworks that beautifully capture the essence of Hong Kong – its rich history, dynamic present, and promising future, reflecting both our brand’s enduring legacy and our forward-looking vision.”
