Travel Postcards From Around The World – Old & New
I read an interesting article in our local newspaper a while back in the travel section.
It was on how – Postcards Tell A Personal Story. It really hit home, as I’ve always collected …
Travel Postcards
from Around The World, and we still do today.
When traveling to new destinations, we always like to mail a postcard home to ourselves and to close family members.
Who doesn’t like receiving a travel postcard in the mail, from a friend or family member? It’s so personal and a great keepsake as well! For us, it’s just a little souvenir from our travels with a picture and unique postmarked stamp included.
Travel Postcards For Memories That Last A Lifetime
Waikiki – Hawaii
I’ve collected various postcards over the years, from travels that I was lucky enough to experience as a young boy. I’ve included a few in this post, from my first international travel experience to Hawaii from Canada.
They are so cool to look back on today, recalling those memorable trips taken years ago!
My wife and I started mailing postcards to ourselves back in the late 1980’s. It’s fun to read what we wrote on the back to ourselves, about our adventures back then.
There’s also some of the neat looking older postmarked stamps as well on them. Below, are just a few of our older postcards we’ve collected over the years, and some from our family members they’ve sent to us and saved as well.
Digital Cameras & Cellphones For Travel
Vintage Waikiki Beach – Hawaii Postcard
Today, the majority of us who are not professional photographers, travel with our compact digital cameras and/or cellphones for storing or sending out our photos.
But how many of us actually take the time to prepare a photo album from our {digital images} that we’ve taken? Or even have any printed for a keepsake, to look back at years down the road.
I would venture to say – not many of us.
Pisa – Italy Travel Postcard
Have you ever lost precious images taken with your cellphone or digital camera
Well, I know we have in the past and especially not knowing how they just … disappeared? Times, when you went searching for them and/or transferred them onto your new phone? 🤨
We have stacks of old photo albums saved over the years, that were taken before the digital camera and cellphone age. They are so neat to drag out ever so often and share with others, taking a stroll down memory lane.
Many of our postcards are included in these albums as well.
Send A Postcard & Print Your Favorite Travel Memories
Vintage Daytona Beach – Florida Travel Postcard
Why not give it a try the next time you’re traveling to a new exciting destination. Send yourself and someone close to you – a postcard.
Take the time and actually personalize a postcard for yourself, along with that special person in your life. If you send someone a postcard and especially to one who loves to travel, chances are they’ll send you one too!
Visit The Local Post Office
Kanchana Buri {Bridge Over The River Kwai} – Thailand Postcard
Visit the post office if you can in your travels and engage in conversation with the locals. You’ll be surprised how interested they are to know where you’re from, sparking at times a wonderful conversation!
For example, I always make a point to ask locals where their favorite restaurant is. We’ve discovered some amazing affordable eateries over the years, by just asking a local.
Years later, when you look back at your postcards and printed photographs, you’ll be so glad you took the time and effort to do so!
Surfing “Wipe Out” Vintage Travel Postcard

Okanagan Beach Motel – Penticton, BC 1964 Postcard
This is a motel we used to stay while on our the summer vacation. This motel was located in the city of Penticton in British Columbia, Canada. It is now long replaced with lakefront condominiums.
Penticton is located in the the Provinces Okanagan Valley and right between 2 beautiful recreational lakes, that draw thousands of vacationers from all over each season. The Okanagan is also known for it’s many fruit orchards, along with world renowned vineyards.
Puerto Vallarta – Mexico Postcard
Puerto Vallarta is a very popular beach vacation city located on the shores of the Pacific coast, in Jalisco state. We first enjoyed a holiday to this now very busy tourist location, back in 2000. It is a very popular destination, especially for us living on the west coast of Canada and the U.S.
It is so popular that we have daily non-stop flights in the winter months to Puerto Vallarta. The coastline is lined with numerous affordable all-inclusive beachfront resorts to choose from.
Tulum – Mexico Postcard
This is one of my favorite easy to reach beach vacation destinations in Mexico. Tulum now a fast growing resort town located in Mexico’s beautiful Yucatán Peninsula. As it is on the Caribbean side of the Yucatan, it has beautiful beaches running down the entire coastline to the city of Cancun.
The Yucatan and Tulum also have amazing historical ancient Mayan ruins sites to explore. We enjoy this part of the country so much, that over the years we’ve visited 4 times now for our beach vacations.
Great Salt Lake – Utah Postcard
Great Salt Lake is located in the State of Utah, just northwest of the city of Salt Lake City. We visited the city and lake a number of years ago while on a camping vacation. Our daughter recently mailed this postcard to us, while visiting her friends in the area.
Unfortunately this lake is undergoing a severe decline in water levels and measures are being taken to combat this. This vast lake is approximately 75 miles long and 35 miles wide at its widest point.
Olympic National Park Postcard
Just to the south across the Strait of Juan de Fuca from where we live on Vancouver Island, is the beautiful Olympic National Park in Washington State USA. It is located on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula in the Pacific Northwest.
This National Park covers over one million acres of pristine wilderness. It is an outdoor adventure playground, that attracts campers, hikers, kayakers and more! With 73 miles of coastline, the scenery is amazing.
A perfect destination to discover the Park is from the city of Port Angeles. Hurricane Ridge, which offers just minutes from town, offer numerous hiking opportunities for all levels and with stunning views.

Postcards appear to be making a come back, which is great to see. It’s a way for you to tell a brief personal story of your exciting adventure.
So do yourself a favor and send a postcard or two, on your next journey!
