The expedition cruise vessel Seaventure has officially emerged under a new identity, now sailing under the ownership and operation of 66 Degrees Expeditions, a rising cruise brand based in China. With its sleek white hull, deep navy-blue detailing, and a bold orange funnel, the vessel has been fully repainted to reflect the new company’s brand. Prominently featured along its exterior is the company’s emblem and slogan, “Beyond Adventures,” signaling the ship’s transformation into a platform for immersive, cross-cultural travel experiences.
After spending several years under charter agreements for various cruise operators around the world, the Seaventure was officially transferred to 66 Degrees Expeditions in the final quarter of 2024. This acquisition marks a significant milestone for the China-based brand as it prepares to debut in the competitive expedition cruising market with a focus on the Arctic and Northern European regions.

The ship’s maiden operational season under the new ownership is scheduled to begin in 2025, with planned itineraries that include remote and adventurous destinations such as Iceland, Svalbard, Greenland, and Jan Mayen. These voyages are designed to appeal to the growing number of Chinese and international travelers seeking off-the-beaten-path explorations and unique natural encounters.
Before entering service with its new operator, the Seaventure underwent a comprehensive drydock refit at the Navalrocha shipyard in Lisbon, Portugal. This refurbishment was not only cosmetic but also structural and functional. In addition to the updated exterior livery, the ship received enhanced safety systems and a full interior renovation. Key upgrades focused on adapting the ship for the Asian market, incorporating region-specific food and beverage offerings, culturally resonant entertainment programs, and onboard Mandarin-language services to ensure a comfortable and familiar environment for Chinese guests.
With a passenger capacity of 162 guests, the Seaventure is ideally suited for small-ship expedition cruising, offering an intimate experience that emphasizes personal engagement with nature and regional cultures. The vessel’s redesigned interior aims to foster a harmonious fusion of Eastern and Western travel philosophies, promoting a journey that blends modern luxury with authentic exploration.
According to the latest edition of the Cruise Industry News Expedition Market Report, Seaventure is expected to complete approximately fifteen Arctic sailings during its first season with 66 Degrees Expeditions. These journeys will highlight glaciers, wildlife, remote communities, and polar landscapes while encouraging cultural understanding between travelers from diverse backgrounds.
Once the Arctic season concludes in September 2025, the ship is scheduled to transition to Antarctica for the 2025–2026 season. This deployment is part of a prior agreement under which the vessel will operate two Antarctic cruises for a third-party operator before returning to 66 Degrees for future voyages. This flexible arrangement reflects the vessel’s unique ability to serve both hemispheres’ expedition seasons, maximizing operational efficiency and guest reach.
Looking ahead to 2026, 66 Degrees Expeditions has ambitious plans for an expanded cruise program. The company intends to operate twenty cruises throughout the year, which will include repositioning voyages across the Atlantic Ocean and along the coasts of Africa. This broadened deployment strategy reinforces the brand’s commitment to becoming a significant player in the expedition cruise segment, both regionally and internationally.
Seaventure brings with it a rich maritime heritage. Originally constructed in 1990 for Frontier Cruises, the vessel later spent nearly two decades operating under a prominent German cruise line. Following its retirement from that fleet, the ship was acquired by a Swiss-based company in early 2019 and placed into service under a variety of charter contracts. Throughout its years of operation, Seaventure has established a strong reputation for reliability, maneuverability in polar regions, and personalized service.
Now revitalized and reimagined under the banner of 66 Degrees Expeditions, Seaventure is set to embark on a bold new chapter. With its upgraded design, cross-cultural concept, and ambitious itineraries, the ship is positioned to become a cornerstone of China’s growing interest in global adventure cruising.
