Ontario International Airport (ONT) experienced a record-breaking month in July, with passenger numbers increasing by 14.4% compared to the same month the previous year, according to airport officials.
In July, the airport served 666,322 travelers, marking the highest single-month figure since it shifted to local control in 2016. This number is approaching the peak of 693,000 passengers reached in August 2007. Of these travelers, 629,000 were domestic, representing a 16.7% rise from the previous July.
For the period from January to July, ONT saw nearly 4 million travelers pass through its gates, marking an 11.6% increase from the same timeframe in 2023. This seven-month figure comprises 3.7 million domestic passengers and 270,000 international travelers, showing growths of 10.9% and 23%, respectively, compared to last year.
“Our run of year-over-year growth now stands at 41 months as our airline partners and air travelers continue to show their strong preferences for Ontario International Airport,” said Atif Elkadi, chief executive officer of the Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA). “Airlines are offering more seats to more places to meet the increasing demand for air travel in the Inland Empire, a desirable region to live and work which has experienced significant population gains in recent years, and the higher passenger volumes month after month bear that out.
“Residents and visitors alike can count on our world class facilities, appealing retail and dining options, and our hallmark hassle-free customer experience,” Elkadi said.
In July, the airlines with the largest shares of passengers were:
- Southwest Airlines at 33.7%
- Frontier Airlines at 17.6%
- American Airlines at 14.7%
- Delta Air Lines at 9.6%
- United Airlines at 7.7%
