The railway network forms the backbone of Hong Kong’s public transportation system, with MTR Corporation (“the Corporation”) at the forefront of building and connecting communities. Through its expansive railway network, the Corporation has been instrumental in driving Hong Kong’s development while also nurturing railway talents, advancing industry standards, and promoting knowledge exchange through its MTR Academy.

“Railways serve as powerful catalysts for the growth of many cities. A robust railway network not
only enhances mobility and contributes to economic and social advancement, but also shapes
urban development. While MTR is celebrating its metro serving Hong Kong for 45 years, I look
to our ‘Belt and Road Railway Forum’ as a pivotal platform for connecting railway professionals
from different regions to explore the essential role of public transport in urban development. It
will also facilitate exchanges on innovative railway technology and industry best practices,
driving future global railway development,” said Dr Rex Auyeung, Chairman of MTR Corporation.

In alignment with the upcoming Belt and Road Week in Hong Kong in early September 2024, the Corporation and the MTR Academy will host the “Belt and Road Railway Forum” on 13 September, themed “How Public Transport Contributes to Building & Connecting Communities.” This event will gather industry professionals from Belt and Road countries for an interactive exchange of ideas.

The Forum will focus on green technologies, innovation, and the future of railway development. Government officials from the HKSAR and industry leaders from Belt and Road nations will share insights on the vital role of public transport in connecting communities, fostering economic growth, and enhancing regional integration.

With 45 years of experience in providing safe, reliable, and efficient railway services, MTR Corporation has expanded its operations beyond Hong Kong, driven by the mission to “Keep Cities Moving.” The Corporation remains committed to building communities and supporting economic development through its comprehensive railway network, contributing to the sustainable growth of cities worldwide. Coinciding with the Corporation’s 45th anniversary, the Forum will highlight MTR’s global expertise and strategic partnerships that foster railway development on a global scale.

Established in 2016, the MTR Academy plays a strategic role in facilitating transnational and transregional exchanges, particularly among Belt and Road countries. The Academy has trained over 400 railway executives in rail management and operations worldwide, furthering global railway excellence.
