If you’re wondering whether it’s worth visiting the Tokyo Tower, the short answer is yes! I’ve been to Tokyo twice, once with my daughter, Chhavi, and then with my sister, Alka and both times I ended up visiting the Tokyo Tower. Coincidentally, it happened the same way both times: we came out of teamLab Borderless, saw the tower in the distance, and decided to walk towards it. There are many reasons why we loved our time there.

Buy Ticket on the Spot

Tokyo Tower is one of those monuments where you can walk in and buy tickets on the spot. Maybe it was luck, or maybe it was because we went on a weekday after sunset, but both times there were no long queues. So, you can visit Tokyo Tower on a whim outside of busy hours. I had no such luck with Tokyo Skytree the first time as all the slots were sold out. Second time, I booked the Skytree tickets in advance and visited it at sunset.

One Deck or Both Decks at Tokyo Tower?

The first time, we went to both decks. Surprisingly, I liked the lower deck more, don’t ask me why! The upper deck experience includes a drink and a photo souvenir (you can buy a bigger print later if you like). But still, I found the view from the lower deck more fascinating.

For comparison the picture right above is from the top deck of the Tokyo Tower. Now, if I compare it with Skytree, of course the view is more panoramic, but Tokyo Tower’s viewpoint is nice too.

A Beautiful View

For me, the view, especially the intersection and the city lights beyond was the most captivating. I must have clicked at least a hundred photos on both visits! The whole circular walk is enjoyable!

Food Court with Vegetarian Options

On my second visit, I knew many restaurants close early, so we went looking for food immediately after the visit to the Tokyo Tower. That’s when we discovered the food court on the ground floor. To my pleasant surprise, there were a few vegetarian options, we went for pizza and churros first, and later realized there was also a ramen stall that had vegan ramens. But we got our vegan ramens later at Kyushu Jangara! We were too hungry to click pictures of the food we ate!

In Contrast there is a whole mall attached to the Skytree including an official Studio Ghibli shop. The shopping and eating options at the Tokyo Skytree are mych more than the Tokyo Tower.

Less Crowded and Easy to Explore

Both times, I found Tokyo Tower less crowded, though perhaps that’s because we always went after sunset. It’s nice to be able to move around freely and take pictures without waiting.

The Classic Vibe

Tokyo Tower has a classic charm. Maybe it’s because it’s older than the Tokyo Skytree, which I visited only on my second trip. The Tokyo Tower, with its retro elegance and red glow against the night sky, has a nostalgic feel that I truly loved.
