Taylor Swift’s concerts boost London’s tourism, driving a 35% surge in international visitors and filling hotels as fans flock to the city.
Taylor Swift fans have been having the time of their lives this summer, as the international superstar’s Eras Tour has swept through key European cities.
In recent days, London Luton Airport (LLA) has been bustling with excited fans from all over Europe, arriving for the singer’s eight-night residency in London.
Traveling fans have been quick to spot fellow Swifties at the airport, exchanging the iconic friendship bracelets, with some even leaving bracelets in LLA’s shops and restaurants for other fans to find.
LLA has identified ‘Swiftie Stays’ as a major trend for 2024 travel, with nearly half of those surveyed indicating they would plan a trip to an international destination to ensure they don’t miss a concert.
Many UK fans, eager to catch a glimpse of the American pop sensation during her three-month European tour, decided not to “Stay Stay Stay” in the UK but instead traveled across Europe in “Style”.
According to LLA data, passenger numbers on seven routes serving European cities hosting Eras Tour concerts rose by an average of 5% compared to flights a week before the concert and on the concert day itself. However, week-on-week passenger numbers saw a slight dip of 2% following Taylor Swift’s performances in these cities.
A significant spike was observed in LLA’s passenger data, with numbers on flights to Paris between Sunday, May 5th, and Sunday, May 12th, marking the end of Swift’s first European tour weekend, surging by over 35%.
Other popular destinations on concert days included Paris, Lisbon, Zurich, and Milan, drawing large crowds eager to see the singer perform.
Amsterdam, Warsaw, and Dublin also saw high passenger numbers both on the days leading up to and on the days of the Eras Tour concerts, ranking among the top 10 destinations for travelers in July 2024.
