Looking for information on visiting the International Alba White Truffle Fair with kids? In this post, discover things to see and do for families during this annual autumn festival in the picturesque town of Alba, in Italy’s north-western Piedmont region.
International Alba White Truffle Fair
Held in the northern Italian city of Alba, the International Alba White Truffle Fair (La Fiera Internazionale del Tartufo Bianco d’Alba) started in 1929 as a sample exhibition to showcase the renowned truffles of the Langhe region. The exhibition has since evolved into the famous International Alba White Truffle Fair that takes place over nine weeks every autumn.
Attracting tens of thousands of visitors from around the world, the International Alba White Truffle Fair showcases gastronomic excellence and unique sensory journeys through a rich event programme of activities, events, guided tours and experiences for all ages. This year, the Alba White Truffle Fair is on every weekend from 11 October to 8 December 2025.

Alba White Truffle World Market
Cortile della Maddalena, entrance from Piazza Falcone, Alba 12051 | Open on Saturdays and Sundays, 0930 to 1930 (last entry at 1900)
Renowned for its intense and complex aroma, the white truffle is a rare and highly prized edible fungus that grows underground. The Alba white truffle, tartufo bianco d’Alba, is among the most famous and sought-after varieties found primarily in the Piedmont region of Italy.
The large Alba White Truffle World Market, located in a marquee within the Cortile della Maddalena, is a great place to buy truffles from the Langhe, Monferrato and Roero area.
Visitors can purchase directly from truffle hunters, merchants and local companies at the Alba White Truffle World Market, where vendors have their finds officially evaluated before they are put up for sale.
Many of the truffles on sale at the Alba White Truffle Fair were picked less than three days before. White truffles are highly perishable and should be consumed within a week of being harvested.
Unlike black truffles, white truffles are best enjoyed raw, thinly shaved over warm dishes such as pasta, risotto and eggs, to enhance their flavour.
The busy Food Area at the market serves up local specialities to enjoy for lunch or an aperitivo, such as a charcuterie platter of local cheese and cold cuts, or typical egg and regional pasta dishes with shavings of tartufo bianco.
Along with the many truffle stalls to browse, there are vendors selling regional specialities that include local cheeses, hazelnuts, chocolates, grappas and wine.
You will also find truffle-themed cooking classes and demonstrations as well as wine tastings of local wines such as Barolo and Barbaresco.
While purchasing admission tickets online, you have the option to combine the ticket with a wine tasting coupon for an additional €9 (or €10 on the door). With the wine tasting coupon, you are entitled to two wine tastings at the Grande Enoteca della Fiera, which is the big wine bar at the White Truffle Market.
Our family enjoyed exploring the Alba White Truffle Market and tasting the many local specialities on offer! We purchased truffles at the market to make a delicious dinner at our holiday rental later that evening, along with several truffle sauces and oils to bring back home.
Tickets: Admission tickets for the Alba White Truffle World Market cost €5 (inlcuding €0.25 booking fee) per person online. Children under 15 years old enter free. Tickets on the door cost €6. Discounts are available for groups of more than 30 people.
Dogs allowed: Dogs are allowed and must be on a leash in all public places, with a maximum length of 1.5 metres.

Folklore Events in Alba
One of the highlights of visiting the International Alba White Truffle Fair with kids was seeing and taking part in the lively folklore events running alongside the festival in Alba. Over most weekends, the historic city centre of Alba is transformed into a lively medieval village, featuring hundreds of market stalls, historical re-enactments and traditional cuisine.
The folklore events are a wonderful opportunity for children to immerse themselves in the history and culture of Alba. Make sure to check the Folklore Events Schedule on the International Alba White Truffle Fair website for what’s on in Alba during the weekend you are visiting.

Special folklore events that are on during the Alba White Truffle Festival include the Donkey Palio and Historical Parade, Borough Bacchanal and the Flag Festival. The Donkey Palio is a race, held on the first Sunday in October, that sees the city’s nine boroughs compete for a painted cloth prize, known as the Palio.
One of the best things to do in Alba with kids in October is to attend the Borough Bacchanal, when the centre is transformed into a medieval village. This special folklore event features two days of historical re-enactments and costumes, themed decorations, traditional cuisine and games. Through the daily actions of the borough’s inhabitants, visitors can experience what life was like in Alba during the Middle Ages.

Where to Eat in Piedmont
There are many great restaurants in Alba and the surrounding charming villages, such as Neive, Bra and Barolo, that feature special autumn menus during truffle season.
This peak season in Alba, from September to November, is a busy time with visitors and popular restaurants book up quickly. Remember to book winery tours and top restaurant reservations for the Piedmont region well in advance, especially for Fridays to Sundays during the International Alba White Truffle Fair.
White truffles are best enjoyed raw, thinly shaved over warm dishes such as pasta, risotto and eggs, to enhance their flavour. Typical regional pasta specialities topped with tartufo bianco d’Alba are ravioli del plin, a traditional Piedmontese small, pinched ravioli filled with roasted meat and vegetables, or tajarin, thin, homemade egg noodles (shown below).
Note that most restaurants in the Piedmont region are usually closed at least one day a week, typically on Mondays or Wednesdays.

For our lunch at Osteria Boccondivino, we enjoyed various dishes from their special truffle season menu, including poached eggs and the 40-yolk tajarin, both topped with shavings of white truffle.

During our first visit to Alba with kids, we had one of our best meals at Osteria L’Aromatario, located in the quaint village of Neive overlooking the vineyards. If you plan on exploring the nearby wineries, Osteria L’Aromatario makes a lovely stop for lunch.
Osteria L’Aromatario, part of a bed and breakfast, offers traditional Piedmont dishes. One of our favourite dishes was the brasato al Barbaresco (shown above), typical braised beef in Barbaresco wine sauce served with mashed potatoes and vegetables.
