The Affects Of Blogger Social Media Burnout

As another year is coming to a close, it’s got me thinking about how social media and all the different platforms have changed over the years.

Today, there is so much competition on the internet and especially for us travel bloggers. Did you know Google estimates that there are over 600 million blogs in circulation worldwide?
That is an insane amount of blogs and competition for other serious bloggers to deal with.

I think after well over a decade of blogging and witnessing the many changes within all the different social media platforms, I’ve finally reached the stage of having ….

Blogger Social Media Burnout

In fact, I’ve learned that social media burnout has become one of the most difficult things all bloggers are now dealing with.

Social Media Burnout For Bloggers Explained

Blogger Social Media Burnout

Bloggers and especially those who are trying to make a living at it, are under extreme pressure to perform and outdo others in their chosen niche. Overtime, the majority of us will suffer from Blogger Social Media Burnout in some way.

It’s a never ending commitment to create good quality content on a regular basis. This is particularly important if you have a website like myself, and are working with and promoting brands.

Not only do you have to prepare good content for your website, but also constantly engage and promote on many social media platforms on a continual basis.

This can be very stressful for many of us small independent individuals and dealing with the fierce competition out there at the same time.

It becomes a vicious cycle of constantly having to …

Create Content → Promote Routinely → Engage Often → Repeat The Cycle

“Social media burnout is the mental, emotional, and sometimes physical exhaustion that comes from trying to keep up with the nonstop demands of being visible online.”

Social Media Algorithms Creating More Stress

What I’ve been finding and especially in the last year or two, is stress caused by everchanging algorithms. I’m constantly feeling like I’m being penalized by these algorithms and like it’s a never ending roller coaster ride.

It definitely can be overwhelming at times trying to keep up with changes. One day your post and review can be doing well on search engine result pages and the next day, it’s gone completely.

If you don’t post on a continuous basis, these algorithms will forget about you and you have to start all over!

Too Many Social Media Platforms

Social Media Platforms

For those of you like me that work with promoting a variety of brands, we are under constant pressure to perform for these brands for which we have collaborated with.

This takes a great deal of time and effort, but the rewards can be so gratifying at the same time.

What has also become extremely difficult for us small independent bloggers lately, is that in order to have your posting more exposed on social media, you now have to pay for this service. If you don’t, your post may not even be visible to even those who are following you.

I know that I’m experiencing this firsthand which is aggravating and definitely has contributed to – Blogger Social Media Burnout at times. For example, how can you have over 10,000 followers on one platform, create an engaging post and only have a handful of Likes?

Oh, and not to mention the times my accounts have been hacked and invaded by 3rd parties, having to start all over again!

Time To Prioritize My Blogging On Social Media

Robert Gr8TravelTips

As the New Year approaches, it’s time to prioritize my social media presence. With all the competition and constant algorithm changes, I simply must pick a couple of social media platforms to post on.

Instead of burning myself out trying to be everywhere, I’m going to select a couple of platforms that work best for myself and for my dedicated partners.

I love travel and have really enjoyed creating and watching my travel blog grow over the years. It’s been a wonderful hobby of mine and the rewards have been absolutely amazing. I’ve had the pleasure of working with some incredible people and brands from around the world.

My wife and I have stayed in some amazing resorts and hotels, taken awesome tours and visited several countries over the years. This has been my reward for the hours and hours of commitment and dedication given to this endeavor.

We’ve also met some wonderful people along the way as well, that has made it all worthwhile. I’m just a small independent travel blogger, competing with millions of others out there.

Vacation Mode

When we do travel, I take a breather and detox from social media. I take pictures and enjoy my vacation. When I return home, I continue where I left off.

So in conclusion, if you’re a blogger, travel consultant, social media manager and any other individual in the same boat as me, then my hats off to you. I do appreciate the hard work and dedication you give on a continual basis and that so often, seems to go unnoticed.

If you think you’ve got the symptoms of Blogger Social Media Burnout, then perhaps it’s time to take a break, detox for a bit and then start again refreshed!
