Cambodia welcomed 3.74 million international visitors during the first seven months of 2024, marking a 23 percent increase from the nearly 3.04 million recorded in the same period last year, according to a report released by the Ministry of Tourism on Saturday.
Thailand led the list of international tourist arrivals to Cambodia between January and July, followed closely by Vietnam and China, the report noted. Specifically, around 1.14 million Thais visited Cambodia, representing an 11.6 percent increase. Additionally, 757,437 Vietnamese and 463,980 Chinese tourists were recorded, showing significant growth of 37.4 percent and 45.6 percent, respectively.
The report also highlighted that 36 percent of the total international tourists entered Cambodia by air, while 64 percent arrived by land and waterways.
In a bid to revitalize its tourism industry in the post-pandemic era, Cambodia launched the Cambodia-China People-to-People Exchange Year 2024 and the “Visit Siem Reap 2024” campaign earlier this year.
“These initiatives are expected to significantly boost the tourism sector, drawing more foreign visitors to Cambodia overall, and particularly to the Angkor Archaeological Park,” stated Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet during the launch of the “Visit Siem Reap 2024” campaign in March.
He also pointed out that the newly built, Chinese-invested Siem Reap Angkor International Airport in the northwest Siem Reap province is emerging as a potential magnet for international tourists visiting the UNESCO-listed Angkor Archaeological Park.
