I look for chance to use FIP train tickets. There was Europen basketball championship 2025. Slovenian team was playing in Katowice, Poland. I bought ticket at Nomago for Saturday game against France, 350 PLZ.
Friday
I left office early and took train to Villach, on time, 1.5h ride, raining. Next train to Vienna was late 15 minutes. I had to change seats as I didn’t have reservation. For 3rd train I had few minutes to stretch legs before continuing to Breclav. Last train for today was tricky, I was late 30 minutes, but train from Budapest to Brno was late 40 minutes, so I didn’t need to wait for next train 15 minutes.
Finally I was in Brno. There I met with Tomaš and Štepan. After short walk to hostel in bunker 10Z I left my bag after checkin, 35€ plus 10€ deposit. Intresting option.
We had a dinner at 3 devils, goulash with knedli, Tomaš paid, meal was around 12 € and beer less then 3. Štepan left and with Tomaš we went for another beer (just me) at sportspub before going to bed, just cash, atm fee. Nice talk again (life, kids, work, travel, cars …), always great to meet people from Brno.
Saturday
Waking up early, after not great sleep on hard matres in cold room inside sleeping bag. After bathroom I left hostel and walked to train station.
Back to Breclav, 1st class, I ate tuna can and got some water. There I waited less than half an hour before taking another train to Katowice. This train arrived 2 hours late.
I had time for lunch and beer with Andrej and his group at Placek. Outside I met Ivo and we had beer at platform before entering, 60PLZ for 4.
We entered and took our seat behind basket, 4th row, Maruša was in 5th. I didn’t have high hopes but Dončić was great and we lost in last few minutes of the game. Beer inside was 20+10 PLZ.
Because of basketball championship there was no room for decent price in Katowice. I took another train to Gliwice. Slept in nice 3 star hotel for 45€, shop on my way 10€. After shower and power nap went out to check night life.
Sunday
Again woke up early ate tuna and checked out. In light rain walk to old town and took Uber to Gliwice radio station and train station. It was time for the first out of 4 trains.
Local train in light rain, 30 minutes. Before next train quick walk in old town, 1st class, stratched on 3 seats, got water, ate pirogy 200CZK. In Vienna I ran to next train, again 1st class, beer and nuts, Semmering.
For last train I had just 5 minuts transfer time, any delay would mean waiting a long time for next option. I arrived in afternoon to Ljubljana, went home and watched TV before I fell asleep.
Summary
Transportation was free, FIP tickets. Paid just 20€ for administration. For accommodation I paid
