On August 29, Latvian carrier airBaltic celebrated the grand opening of its Technical Academy. The event, held at the airline’s Concors Hangar at RIX Riga Airport, was marked by the presence of new students, their families, and dignitaries from airBaltic, Riga Technical University (RTU), and Liepaja State Technical School (LVT). The academy is now home to its inaugural cohort of 57 students enrolled in three specialized programs, all set to begin their journey toward becoming certified aircraft technicians.

Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic: “Today marks a significant milestone for airBaltic and the
entire Baltic region as we launch our new Technical Academy. This initiative will provide students with
high-level technical education, and professional skills, preparing them for a successful career within the
aviation industry. Skilled and well-trained professionals are key to the success of any airline that is why we
are continuously investing in the development of our team, ensuring that airBaltic maintains the highest
standards with the best professionals and innovative technological solutions in technical maintenance.”

“During study years, I wish students to make the most of every learning opportunity. Your time at the
Technical Academy will equip you with not only practical knowledge but also such essential skills and
values like teamwork. Embrace challenges with curiosity, as they will shape your future success in the
aviation industry. I wish you all the best on this exciting journey,” Gauss added.

The airBaltic Technical Academy, located in Riga and Liepaja, delivers practical training on the latest Airbus A220-300 aircraft. Aimed at supporting airBaltic’s ambition to recruit and train around 400 aviation maintenance specialists by 2030, the academy offers three specialized programs. These programs feature free education, opportunities to balance work with study, and assured job placements in a skilled field. The launch of the Technical Academy enhances our internship and training partnerships with universities and strengthens our internal technical training initiatives for new hires.
