A 5.7 magnitude earthquake hit Afghanistan on Thursday, triggering minor tremors felt across northern India, including the Delhi-NCR area. The quake struck at 11:26 AM IST, with the epicenter located 28 kilometers from Ashkasham. The tremor’s impact was noticeable in various parts of India, including Rajasthan and Delhi, where residents reported feeling the ground shake, causing brief moments of concern. However, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage in Afghanistan or India.

In Pakistan, tremors were felt in Islamabad, as well as in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. Afghanistan, located in a seismically active region, frequently experiences earthquakes of different magnitudes. The country has a history of significant quakes, often resulting in severe consequences due to its rugged terrain and inadequate infrastructure. In October 2023, a series of powerful earthquakes devastated the western region of Afghanistan, killing thousands. Three major tremors occurred last year: a 6.3 magnitude quake on October 7, another 6.3 magnitude quake on October 11, and a 6.4 magnitude quake on October 15. According to a report by UNICEF, nearly 1,500 people lost their lives in Herat and surrounding areas during these disasters.
