Organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the 32nd edition of the Macao International Fireworks Display Contest will be held from 7 September to 6 October. This year’s event celebrates the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the Macao SAR. Fireworks companies from ten countries will captivate both locals and visitors with dazzling displays. Highlighting the synergy of “tourism + events,” the Contest aims to enhance nighttime experiences, increase foot traffic, and stimulate the local economy, further solidifying Macao’s reputation as a vibrant international city.

This year, six integrated resort enterprises are partnering for the Contest. MGTO hosted a press conference today (28 August) to unveil the event and its associated programs. The press conference also featured a blessing ceremony and the prize-giving ceremony for the Chinese Slogan Contest.

During the event, Acting Director of MGTO, Cheng Wai Tong, noted that this year’s double celebrations—honoring the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the Macao SAR—will feature the fireworks extravaganza as a key highlight. He emphasized that, through the collaboration of various entities, the Contest will offer residents and visitors ten mesmerizing shows, adding even more joy to the celebrations.

Ten Fireworks Companies Light Up Macao’s Sky

The 32nd Macao International Fireworks Display Contest will illuminate the night sky above the sea near Macau Tower at 9 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. on 7, 14, and 21 September, as well as on 1 and 6 October. Ten pyrotechnic companies from Russia, France, Canada, Thailand, Spain, the Philippines, China, Italy, Japan, and Portugal will showcase their artistry through spectacular 18-minute displays. Following the final two shows on 6 October, the winners of this year’s contest will be announced at a prize-giving ceremony.

Experience the Magic of Fireworks from Prime Vantage Points

To enhance the experience for residents and visitors, five prime viewing locations are recommended this year: the area between Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre and the Leisure Area of Kun Iam Statue Waterfront on Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, the waterfront at Macao Science Center, Avenida de Sagres (next to Mandarin Oriental, Macau), Anim’Arte NAM VAN, and Avenida do Oceano in Taipa. The fireworks will be broadcast live on TDM Ou Mun TV Channel and TDM Entertainment TV Channel, with synchronized music available on TDM – Radio Macao’s Chinese Channel (FM100.7) at 9 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. on each fireworks evening.

Engage with the Fireworks Contest through Exciting Outreach Programs

To encourage public participation in the Fireworks Contest, the Photo Contest and Student Drawing Contest offer photography enthusiasts and students a chance to capture and interpret the fireworks through their creative talents.

The Photo Contest is coordinated by the Photographic Society of Macao, while the Student Drawing Contest is managed by the Macau Artist Society. For more details and to download the application forms, visit the official websites of these organizations.

Additionally, a new online interactive game has been launched for this year’s Contest, inviting both local and visiting players to participate. By engaging with promotional posts online or scanning the QR code at the fireworks viewing zones, participants can enter the WeChat mini-program “MGTO’s Interactive Zone,” share photos or videos to garner likes, or complete a fireworks photo game mission for a chance to win exciting prizes.

Fireworks Carnival at Macao Science Center Waterfront
