A powerful deep depression has developed over East Rajasthan, bringing about notable weather changes in several areas. This weather disturbance, which originally emerged over northwest Madhya Pradesh and nearby regions, has gradually shifted west-southwestward, impacting extensive parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat.
As reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the depression, as of 08:30 IST on August 26th, 2024, was located at approximately latitude 24.1°N and longitude 74.0°E. This coordinates place the weather system about 60 km south-southeast of Udaipur in East Rajasthan, 180 km to the east of Deesa in Gujarat, and 180 km northeast of Ahmedabad in Gujarat.
The movement of this depression is expected to result in heavy rainfall and strong winds across the affected regions. Residents and authorities in these areas are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions, as the weather conditions may lead to flooding and other disruptions.
The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely, issuing updates and warnings as the system progresses. The potential for further intensification remains, and affected regions should be prepared for ongoing weather impacts.

Railway Service Interruptions
Western Railway has declared the cancellation of several MEMU special trains between Khambhat and Anand for August 26, 2024. Heavy rainfall and waterlogging at Bajva Station in the Vadodara Division have exacerbated the disruptions. The Vadodara-Jamnagar Intercity Express and Vadodara-Ahmedabad Intercity Express on August 26, 2024, will commence from Ranoli station instead of their original starting points. Similarly, the Ahmedabad-Vadodara Intercity Express will terminate at Ranoli station on the same day, altering travel plans for numerous passengers.

- 22923 Bandra Terminus – Jamnagar Humsafar Express (August 26)
- 19033 Valsad – Ahmedabad Gujarat Queen (August 27)
- 09021 Udhana – Bhavnagar Terminus Special (August 26)
- 20950 Ekta Nagar – Ahmedabad Jan Shatabdi Express (August 26)
- 20947 Ahmedabad – Ekta Nagar Jan Shatabdi Express (August 27)
Additionally, due to heavy rain and waterlogging at Bajwa station, trains scheduled for August 26, 2024, will be diverted via Anand – Godhra – Vadodara

IndiGo has issued a travel alert due to the heavy rains affecting several cities, including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Surat, Hirasar, Vadodara, Udaipur, Jodhpur, and Diu. Passengers are urged to frequently check their flight status and stay informed about any changes.

In light of the severe weather and potential heavy rainfall, those in the impacted areas should exercise caution. Residents in flood-prone regions are advised to stay alert and consider evacuation if necessary. It is also wise to avoid non-essential travel, particularly in areas where transportation services are compromised. Fishermen and small vessels operating in the northeast Arabian Sea, as well as along the Gujarat and north Maharashtra coasts, should refrain from setting out until the weather conditions improve.

Movement and Expected Path
The deep depression is predicted to continue moving slowly in a west-southwest direction. Over the coming days, it is expected to pass through southern Rajasthan and the Gujarat region. By the morning of August 29th, it is forecasted to reach the Saurashtra and Kutch regions, as well as parts of Pakistan and the northeast Arabian Sea. This trajectory suggests extensive impacts, including significant rainfall and potentially severe weather.

- East & West Madhya Pradesh: On August 26th, light to moderate rain is anticipated throughout most areas, with some regions experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall that could result in localized flooding and disruptions.
- East & West Rajasthan: Light to moderate rain is expected on August 26th, with several locations receiving heavy to very heavy showers. Isolated spots might face extremely heavy rainfall, raising concerns about flooding and waterlogging.
