Located in the heart of Hong Kong, Island Shangri-La has served as a vibrant gathering place since 1991. Generations of Hong Kongers come for family celebrations, relaxing spa days, and to mark special occasions such as Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, and Christmas, making the hotel a central part of city life.
Despite its urban setting, Island Shangri-La offers the tranquility of a resort. Its ongoing, thoughtfully planned renovation focuses on creating restful spaces and experiences that ease city living. The Hong Kong Suite: Living Areas to Entertain
With a refined contemporary Asian design, the Hong Kong Suite features painted fabric walls, showcases local craftsmanship, and displays specially commissioned art and antiques. Notably, 19th-century paintings of traditional Hong Kong sampans offered by Christie’s add a unique historical charm.
As guests step into the Living Room, they are immediately drawn to the breathtaking view of Hong Kong Harbour and the bustling city extending to the horizon. On the right, a floor-to-ceiling textured mural showcases a historical scene of the Harbour, highlighting the city’s origins as a 19th-century fishing village. Inspired by feng shui, the suite’s design emphasizes the water and sea, creating a welcoming atmosphere believed to bring good fortune.
A generously sized circular dining table, surrounded by four deep, comfortable chairs, can be positioned to optimize views of the stunning cityscape for an exceptional dining experience. The maxi pantry boasts premium amenities tailored to each guest’s preferences, complemented by the service of a dedicated butler.
The elegant, spacious living room is further enhanced by cutting-edge AV technology, including a 65-inch flat screen television, IPTV with mirroring capabilities, and a sound bar—all adding a thrilling new dimension to your experience.
Interiors: The bedroom and bathroom
Showcasing feng shui principles, the bedroom honors the mountains and greenery of Hong Kong. It’s designed as a private retreat for relaxation and self-care, with a super king-size bed and an elegant daybed placed by the window to maximize enchanting views. A striking full-wall mural above the bedhead echoes the verdant landscape of Victoria Peak and the Botanical Gardens.
A dressing room adjoining the bedroom continues the mountain-inspired theme, adorned with textured wallpaper illustrating traditional Chinese lucky clouds and pine trees—symbols of prosperity and longevity. The wardrobes feature ample shelving and storage to accommodate couture, jewelry, and accessories.
The large en-suite bathroom, finished in white marble, serves as a true urban retreat. It features an expansive walk-in shower with twin overhead rain shower heads and a heated bench, plus double vanities stocked with Acqua di Parma bath amenities for a spa-like experience.
Undoubtedly, the showpiece of the bathroom is its polished round marble bathtub set under a golden ceiling, framed by hand-cut mosaics and inspired by magnolias—a flower native to China and once reserved for emperors. Guests can enhance their bath ritual with Shangri-La Signature Bath Salt, crafted exclusively by YUN WELLNESS, the property’s acclaimed spa. For added enjoyment, a built-in Bluetooth speaker and television offer immersive entertainment options.
