The Hong Kong Suite: A Celebration of Hong Kong by Island Shangri-La

Island Shangri-La launches a new ultra-prime suite inspired by Hong Kong’s culture of contemporary hospitality.

Hong Kong –Island Shangri-La proudly unveils the Hong Kong Suite—a milestone in its multi-year renovation. There’s only one Hong Kong Suite, just as there is only one Hong Kong. Perched on the 50th floor, the suite features breathtaking views over Central and Victoria Harbour, offering guests a unique bird’s-eye perspective on the city’s dynamic spirit.

The Hong Kong Suite masterfully distills the city’s special magic. Its sweeping views of land and sea deliver a stirring cinematic panorama, showcasing one of the world’s most iconic skylines. Yet, beyond these striking vistas, the suite embodies quiet luxury and understated elegance, deeply rooted in its Asian heritage and intrinsically ‘Hong Kong.’

Intimate but never extravagant, the Hong Kong Suite exemplifies the essence of Asian contemporary hospitality, where luxury is discreet. The design is airy, light-filled, and channels positive feng shui, bridging the sea and mountains, while nostalgic touches pay homage to Hong Kong’s rich history.

Island Shangri-La General Manager Clifford Weiner affirms, “Our renovation reflects Shangri-La’s commitment to Hong Kong and the hotel’s ongoing role in the city’s cultural identity. We draw strength from our Asian and cosmopolitan outlook, bringing our distinctive heritage to the world. For us, true luxury lies in connecting with this place and celebrating Hong Kong’s unique culture and community—something the suite that bears our city’s name showcases perfectly.”

Island Shangri-La: the heart of Hong Kong

Located in the heart of Hong Kong, Island Shangri-La has served as a vibrant gathering place since 1991. Generations of Hong Kongers come for family celebrations, relaxing spa days, and to mark special occasions such as Chinese New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival, and Christmas, making the hotel a central part of city life.

Despite its urban setting, Island Shangri-La offers the tranquility of a resort. Its ongoing, thoughtfully planned renovation focuses on creating restful spaces and experiences that ease city living. Notable recent additions include the award-winning YUN WELLNESS, a peaceful sanctuary with a pool deck; the innovative Family Floor, which elevates family travel; and Ming Pavilion, a restaurant showcasing the depth of Hokkien cuisine.

The renovation continues apace, and the Hong Kong Suite stands as a testament to the deep sense of place each element brings to the hotel. As General Manager Clifford Weiner adds: “With the launch of our latest suite, we really wanted to celebrate the DNA of Island Shangri-La. We ‘are’ Hong Kong, we sit at the beating heart of our city, and so with quiet grace and a lot of forethought, we have created a product that we feel represents the best of what our city has to offer to the world.”

The Hong Kong Suite: Living Areas to Entertain

With a refined contemporary Asian design, the Hong Kong Suite features painted fabric walls, showcases local craftsmanship, and displays specially commissioned art and antiques. Notably, 19th-century paintings of traditional Hong Kong sampans offered by Christie’s add a unique historical charm.

As guests step into the Living Room, they are immediately drawn to the breathtaking view of Hong Kong Harbour and the bustling city extending to the horizon. On the right, a floor-to-ceiling textured mural showcases a historical scene of the Harbour, highlighting the city’s origins as a 19th-century fishing village. Inspired by feng shui, the suite’s design emphasizes the water and sea, creating a welcoming atmosphere believed to bring good fortune.

A generously sized circular dining table, surrounded by four deep, comfortable chairs, can be positioned to optimize views of the stunning cityscape for an exceptional dining experience. The maxi pantry boasts premium amenities tailored to each guest’s preferences, complemented by the service of a dedicated butler.

The elegant, spacious living room is further enhanced by cutting-edge AV technology, including a 65-inch flat screen television, IPTV with mirroring capabilities, and a sound bar—all adding a thrilling new dimension to your experience.

Interiors: The bedroom and bathroom

Showcasing feng shui principles, the bedroom honors the mountains and greenery of Hong Kong. It’s designed as a private retreat for relaxation and self-care, with a super king-size bed and an elegant daybed placed by the window to maximize enchanting views. A striking full-wall mural above the bedhead echoes the verdant landscape of Victoria Peak and the Botanical Gardens.

A dressing room adjoining the bedroom continues the mountain-inspired theme, adorned with textured wallpaper illustrating traditional Chinese lucky clouds and pine trees—symbols of prosperity and longevity. The wardrobes feature ample shelving and storage to accommodate couture, jewelry, and accessories.

The large en-suite bathroom, finished in white marble, serves as a true urban retreat. It features an expansive walk-in shower with twin overhead rain shower heads and a heated bench, plus double vanities stocked with Acqua di Parma bath amenities for a spa-like experience.

Undoubtedly, the showpiece of the bathroom is its polished round marble bathtub set under a golden ceiling, framed by hand-cut mosaics and inspired by magnolias—a flower native to China and once reserved for emperors. Guests can enhance their bath ritual with Shangri-La Signature Bath Salt, crafted exclusively by YUN WELLNESS, the property’s acclaimed spa. For added enjoyment, a built-in Bluetooth speaker and television offer immersive entertainment options.
