Chhavi and I recently visited Kumbhalgarh. This is what she has to say about our jeep safari in Kumbhalgarh! Over to Chhavi.

Last week, I embarked on an unforgettable jungle safari in Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary with my mother. While this was not my first safari, nothing truly prepares you for Kumbhalgarh until you’re actually inside that jeep, surrounded by the wild. The safari starts with a steep descent into the jungle which is the ultimate definition of a bumpy road, or so I thought!

When we first arrived at the safari’s starting point, I felt a brief surge of bravery just about five seconds of it. But as soon as the jeep started rolling into the dense jungle, my thoughts immediately turned to survival mode. The rough terrain and unpredictable bumps made me think, “Is this it? Is my life going to fly out of this jeep today?”

The deeper we ventured, the rougher the ride became. The path felt like a natural obstacle course filled with rocks, sudden jumps, and surprises that challenged my balance at every turn. Inside the jeep, I felt tossed around like a popcorn kernel in a hot pan, struggling to stay seated as the vehicle bounced along like it was on a roller coaster track.

Just when I thought I had earned the title of “Extreme Jeep Acrobat,” a delightful surprise caught my eye, custard apple trees bursting with ripe fruit. It was like stumbling into a custard apple festival right in the heart of the forest, with the trees heavy with luscious, green fruit.

There was a tea point inside the jungle, where we got out of the jeep, stretched our back and legs and eagerly ordered tea while sitting at an elevated platofrm. Our driver, Bhairon Singh ji and Babbar Singh ji did some formalities. I thought of not entering the jeep again but alas there was no way to be airlifted out of the jungle. After the wonderful tea it was bumpy jeep ride time again!

As we pushed even further into the jungle, the jeep bounced more fiercely, making me hold on tighter to the railing. Between the jolts, I half-joked to myself that if I did fall out, at least I’d land near those tempting custard apples! The experience was a wild mix of fear, laughter, and sheer fun.

Now you may ask, what did we see? Well, the usual suspects, some birds, deer and the like. All the big cats kept to themselves!

Just before the exit, we got a faraway view of the mighty Kumbhalgarh Fort. At the end of the safari, we picked one of the custard apples and savored its sweet, juicy flavor a perfect reward after all the jungle’s surprises.

This adventure was a perfect blend of nature, excitement, and a little bit of unplanned bouncing. For anyone considering a jungle safari, be ready for both thrills and unexpected delights, in my case, the custard apple trees stole the show!
